Dixie Chopper once again is parading raw horsepower around with the Dixie Chopper-sponsored pulling truck, driven by Jake Zaring of Fillmore, IN, on the new Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League circuit in 2006.
Zaring and longtime friend and truck-pulling rival Jim Hilburn (who doubles as Dixie Chopper national service manager) fulfilled a 20-year dream last spring in building the Dodge Dakota pulling truck over a 51-day period in time to debut at Salem, Ind., over the Memorial Day weekend.
In just his second competitive event with his new rig, Zaring drove the “It’s the Horsepower, Stupid” truck to victory over the July 4th holiday in Rushville, Ill., pulling the sled 303 feet, 7 inches to plow under his nearest competitor by almost three feet.

For the 2005 debut season, Zaring and the Dixie Chopper truck finished fifth nationally in the ATPA points standings. This season they will be competing in the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League series, beginning with an invitation to the “granddaddy of the all,” the National Farm Machinery Show Tractor Pull Feb. 15-18 in Louisville.
Powered by more than 1,300 horsepower and a Pro-Fab transmission, the Dixie Chopper truck burns seven gallons of alcohol fuel per run. Its distinctive design features blades of grass stenciled along the bottom of each door panel, while the weight box up front has been made to look like the bottom of a 72-inch Dixie Chopper mowing deck.
