Parke Lucas helps Matt Land and the LP 3000 reach the first landing outside the DePauw University Union Building.
When Dixie Chopper National Sales Manager Matt Land made his famous Clean Cut Across America tour last spring, he encountered a number of obstacles along the 2,000-mile trek.
Rain, cold, heat, mountains, desert, traffic ... even a disinterested Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But when he took the Dixie Chopper propane mower to the Community Sustainability Expo at DePauw University’s campus in Greencastle recently, he conquered another obstacle -- stairs.
But a few concrete steps couldn’t stop Land from getting the propane-powered mower to the Union Building landing as a visual aid for the “green” expo. Sure there is a handicapped ramp providing access to the Union Building, but it was far too narrow for the LP Mower and its 60-inch cutting deck.
That left one option -- climbing the stairs with the large mower. One small step for man, one giant leap for lawn care!
In less than 90 seconds, However, Land and Dixie Chopper Indiana Territory Manager Parke Lucas had maneuvered the mower into position on the Union Building landing, much to the pleasure of DePauw visitors and students alike. And all without scratching the deck, dragging the blades or blowing a tire.
“Piece of cake,” Land told DePauw program coordinator Jennifer Everett as he backed the mower into place after driving up the steps. “Try that with another mower!,” he added.

Dixie Chopper took part in the Jan. 31 DPU program that included the Expo in the UB lobby and discussions on global warming as part of “Focus the Nation,” promoting conservation and climate change solutions that are good for the environment and business.
Land did just that for Dixie Chopper when he rode the LP 3000 propane-powered mower from Greencastle to Sacramento, Calif., to promote its environmental and financial benefits. The Clean Cut Across America effort followed historic Route 66 and included stops in Springfield, Ill., St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Austin, Texas, Phoenix, San Diego and Sacramento.
