INDIANAPOLIS -- In winning Super Bowl XLI, the Indianapolis Colts exhibited extraordinary speed and power in mowing down the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Feb. 4. Just like the lawn mowers the Colts use at their training facilities.
To help tackle their needs for the 2006 season, the Colts acquired two bruisers that were immediately put to work eating up yardage at the Colts’ Union Federal Football Center on the west side of Indianapolis.
Joining the Colts’ lineup were two new rugged Dixie Chopper lawn mowers -- 72-inch and 60-inch versions of the tough-nosed Xtreme Mowchine. Dixie Chopper is the Official Lawn Mower of the Indianapolis Colts.
The two mowers were customized for the Super Bowl Champion Colts by Dixie Chopper with the team’s famed horseshoe logo and the stylish “Colts” cut into the stainless steel fenders. Marketing Manager Rick Judy explained that the gas tanks were painted blue to allow the background for both the horseshoe logo and “Colts” cutouts to shine through in Colts' colors.
The two custom mowers were delivered to the Colts Complex at the beginning of the season by Dixie Chopper National Sales Manager Matt Land, Indiana Territory Manager Parke Lucas and John Faulkenberg of the Bulldog Power Equipment dealership in Monrovia. On the receiving end for the Colts were Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Tom Zupancic and Troy Glendenning, facilities manager for the Colts Union Federal Football Center along 56th Street in Indianapolis.
Glendenning, who mows his own yard and those of his commercial clients (including all-pro quarterback Peyton Manning) with a Dixie Chopper, takes care of 28 acres at the complex. Being able to utilize “The World’s Fastest Lawn Mower” reduced his crew’s mowing time significantly, he said.
The muscular Zupancic, who owns a 44-inch Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle, said he can mow his small Brownsburg area lawn in 41/2 minutes. That’s right, 41/2 minutes. He also uses the mower to cut athletic fields at his son’s school, while his son also mows several of their envious elderly neighbors’ yards with the Dixie Chopper.
As the official lawn mower of the Indianapolis Colts, Dixie Chopper recently awarded a Silver Eagle lawn mower to a lucky Colts' fan for the second straight season.
